  1. Download sample-vault.zip from the latest release.
  2. Unzip it anywhere on your computer.
  3. In Obsidian, click Open folder as vault and select the unzipped folder.

The plugin comes pre-installed there, so you can start annotating right away - no license needed.

Get it running

Install Starlight PDF in your own vault with BRAT, one step at a time.

Step 1 of 5

In Obsidian, open Settings → Community plugins and enable Community plugins.

After the initial install, Starlight PDF updates in Obsidian just like any native community plugin.

Prefer a manual install?
  1. Download the latest release's main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css files from GitHub Releases.
  2. Move the files into your vault's .obsidian/plugins/starlight-pdf folder (create it if needed).
  3. Restart Obsidian and enable the plugin in Settings → Community plugins.

Activate your license

Everything works without a license - you just can't save your changes. When you're ready, activate one to unlock saving.
